Here is an example of how you should cite a reference from for publication. We adapted this from the MLA style guide for online publications. The basic citation should always have author, title of article, title of journal, pages (or in case of unpaginated sources, number of paragraphs), and the URL, in square brackets. (We prefer to use square brackets for the URL, as 'slant' (< or >) brackets confuse some word-processor programs and are a pain for HTML coders.) Sometimes, the length of the URL will cause it to skip to the next line - unfortunately, this is unavoidable. Pages vs. paragraphs - when there are no pages given, as is common in web journals, count the number of paragraphs instead (see Buszek examples). In our print version of each article, we give the full citation, as well as offer a paragraph count and pages as they correspond to our .PDF version of the issue. If you are using an article from our downloadable Acrobat (.PDF) file - the citation would be the same as other paper journals, formatted in the style usual for your field (see Sherman examples). examples Buszek, Maria-Elena. "'Oh! Dogma (Up Yours!)': Surfing the Third Wave." thirdspace 1/1 (July 2001): 10 pars. [http://www.thirdspace.ca/articles/buzek.htm]. Sherman, Yael. "Tracing the Carnival Spirit in Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Feminist Reworkings of the Grotesque." thirdspace 3/2 (March 2004): 89-107 (print), 25 pars. (web). [http://www.thirdspace.ca/articles/3_2_sherman.htm]. footnote/endnote: Maria-Elena Buszek, "'Oh! Dogma (Up Yours!)': Surfing the Third Wave" thirdspace 1/1 (July 2001): para. 3 [http://www.thirdspace.ca/articles/buszek.htm]. Yael Sherman, "Tracing the Carnival Spirit in Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Feminist Reworkings of the Grotesque" thirdspace 3/2 (March 2004): 90. inline: Buszek's essay outlines the pop-cultural underpinnings of the "third wave" (Buszek, para.3). Sherman sees Buffy the Vampire Slayer as a "near-ideal postmodern site" (Sherman, 90).
